Flying squads to support growing regional communities

Nationals Member for Mildura, Peter Crisp, has welcomed today’s announcement that planning flying squads will be restored under an elected Liberal Nationals government.

The Council Planning Flying Squad program will take the pressure off Victoria’s rural and regional councils, which are under increasing pressure from rates capping, rising costs and skills shortages.

The flying squads will also support the Liberal Nationals’ decentralisation plan and encourage development and investment growth in regional Victoria.

“If Victoria is to be a state of cities and not just a city state we need to be supporting decentralisation and council planning can be a major issue in holding back decentralisation.

“Mildura Rural City Council is on the list of eligible councils for the Planning Flying Squad program as there are a number of projects that are stuck in planning that could deliver jobs and prosperity to our region.” Mr Crisp said.

The flying squads proved to be a success before they were axed in 2015 by the Premier for Melbourne, Daniel Andrews.
