Catch Your Free Recreational Fishing Guide For 2013

Peter Crisp - Tuesday, January 22, 2013

Member for Mildura, Peter Crisp, is encouraging recreational fishers to pick up a copy of the 2013 Victorian Recreational Fishing Guide.

Also available as a free downloadable app, the guide includes details on licence information, regulation enforcement, restricted areas, protected fish and general fishing rules and tips.

“The information in this guide has important information to help you to fish safely and responsibly in Victorian waters,” Mr Crisp said.

“Thanks to Government investment in re-stocking following the drought, there are now some excellent opportunities for recreational fishing in the Mildura electorate.

“The Victorian Government is demonstrating its strong commitment to improving fishing opportunities by investing $16 million over four years.

“Recreational Licence Fees have been used to stock more than two million fish over the past two years.

“Recreational fishing generates economic activity and growth while providing social benefits for families and the community.”

Mr Crisp said “I encourage local fishers to pick up one of the 2013 Victorian Recreational Fishing Guides.  People can download the free app from Apple’s App Store/iTunes or Android’s Google Play. You can also look it up on the Department of Primary Industries website http://www.dpi.vic.gov.au/fisheries/recreational-fishing/recreational-fishing-guide or call 131 186 to order your free copy.”

Better boat ramps for northwest anglers

Peter Crisp - Wednesday, October 10, 2012

Local fishers are set to benefit from upgrades to a number of boat ramps along the Murray River between Robinvale and Berribee.

Member for Mildura Peter Crisp said up to 10 boat ramps in urgent need of repair would be upgraded over the coming year as part of this multi-agency project, which has already received widespread support from local anglers.

The ramps likely to receive the much needed upgrades can be found at locations which are mostly along the Victorian side of the Murray River, such as Berribee, Lock Nine, Lake Culluleraine, Cowanna Bend, Kings Billabong, Danes Road, Hattah Kulkyne, Robinvale and Wemen.

The Victorian Government’s Recreational Fishing Initiative will fund the upgrades in conjunction with the Mallee Catchment Management Authority and Parks Victoria.

Mr Crisp said the Murray River in the Sunraysia region was very popular with Victorian fishers who enjoy catching Murray cod, golden perch and spiny freshwater crayfish.

Mr Crisp said many Victorian fishers and their families travelled to the Murray River to camp and fish and the upgrades meant they would be able to launch and retrieve their boats with greater ease at these locations.

“The Recreational Fishing Initiative aims to improve angler access and facilities, stock more fish, install cleaning tables, deploy fishing reefs and strengthen compliance,” Mr Crisp said.

“Fishing is a popular pastime for over 720,000 Victorians and supports regional businesses ranging from hotels to bait and tackle stores.”

If you have a suggestion about how to improve fishing access and infrastructure in Sunraysia then email your idea to Fisheries Victoria via improving.fishing@dpi.vic.gov.au.

RECREATIONAL FISHING REGIONAL ROUNDTABLE FORUMS IN MILDURA

Peter Crisp - Tuesday, June 14, 2011

Anglers are once again invited to attend Fisheries Victoria's Recreational Fishing Regional Roundtable Forums being held around Victoria.

These open-house forums are a great opportunity for anglers to have their say about recreational fisheries management in Victoria, liaise with DPI Fisheries Victoria staff and the fishing community, and learn more about how Fisheries Victoria is improving fishing in Victoria.

Anglers and Fisheries staff can exchange ideas, identify opportunities and build effective working relationships.

This year’s forums will be held in Mildura on Wednesday 15 June from 7pm at the Visitor Information Centre, 180-190 Deakin Avenue.
