The Nationals Member for Mildura, Peter Crisp, is encouraging agricultural and pastoral societies across the Mildura electorate to apply for grants to help upgrade their facilities.
“The Coalition Government’s 2012/13 Agricultural and Pastoral Society Grants program provide up to $10,000 to develop showground facilities, up to $8,000 to upgrade showground amenities and up to $5,000 for associated society activities,” Mr Crisp said.
“Local show and field days societies can apply for more than one grant to supply better display facilities, improve amenities or enhance business activities,” Mr Crisp said.
“The grants are conditional on the basis that a society will contribute $1 to the cost of the project for every $2 provided by the government,” he said.
“Since the year 2000, more than $2 million in grants has been provided to show societies with many recipients from regional areas,” Mr Crisp said.
“Agricultural shows and field days are a highlight of local social and agricultural calendars and are an integral part of the rural communities across our region and the state,” he said.
The Agricultural and Pastoral Society Grants program recognises the important role these societies play in developing and nurturing a sense of community.
