CRISP WELCOMES NEW CMA CHAIR
2011
Member for Mildura Peter Crisp today welcomed the appointment of Ms Sharyon Peart as the new chairperson of the Mallee Catchment Management Authority (CMA).
“Ms Peart brings a wealth of experience and skills to the position and I have every confidence in her ability to lead the team of board members, staff and the community in meeting the challenges of the future,” Mr Crisp said.
“I look forward to working with Ms Peart and the Board as they provide advice to government on the management of the natural resources of the Mallee now and into the future.”
Ms Peart takes up her position today and will remain in the role until 2013. She is a current councillor of Mildura Rural City, has her own small business, and also has experience in community consultation, governance and people management.
Mr Crisp said the Mallee CMA will face a number of environmental challenges and water management issues in the future including the release of the Murray Darling Basin Authority’s draft plan.
“The CMA has an important role to play in setting local priorities, evaluating the effectiveness of outcomes and identifying opportunities for community engagement,” Mr Crisp said.
Mr Crisp also paid tribute to the retiring chair of the CMA, Ms Joan Burns, for her 11 years of service to the Mallee.
“The Mallee CMA is continuing to work on effective and efficient environmental waterings using regulators downstream of Mildura, and I commend them for their work in this area,” Mr Crisp said.
Mr Crisp said catchment management in Victoria was a partnership between community and government.
“CMA boards help make sure community views on land, biodiversity, water resources and waterway priorities for a region are communicated effectively to government.”
