Crisp Calls for Level Crossing program
MEMBER for Mildura Peter Crisp has condemned Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan for failing to act to improve safety on Mildura’s rail line.
In Parliament on Tuesday, Mr Crisp called on the Public Transport Minister to explain why she had ignored calls from Mildura residents to upgrade the line’s level crossings.
Mr Crisp said level crossings with lights and boom gates are crucial to moving grain quickly and efficiently along the line, as well as promoting safety for motorists and pedestrians.
“It is now the time to invest in keeping country roads safe by the provision of lights and boom gates, particularly on highways like the Calder and Sunraysia,” he said.
Following his speech on Tuesday, Mr Crisp met with Mildura Rural City Council Mayor Glenn Milne and rail expert Dr Bill Russell.
Mr Crisp said Cr Milne and Dr Russell both recognise the importance of completing the Murray Basin Rail Project and getting level crossing upgrades on the line.
